Burrell Hands Management Reins to Partners

CHICAGO Burrell Communications CEO and founder Tom Burrell is turning the firm over to a team of three managing partners as part of a sweeping management change at the African American specialty shop, the agency said on Wednesday.

Burrell, 65, will assume the title chairman emeritus and assist in the leadership transition. Running the shop, 49 percent of which is owned by the Publicis Groupe, will be newly named managing partners Fay Ferguson, McGhee Williams and Steve Conner.

Ferguson and Williams joined the agency in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and both previously held managing director titles, reporting to Burrell. Conner has joined Burrell from his own shop, the Steve Agency, and will assume creative leadership.

Leaving the agency are managing directors Mike Faems, who was head creative, and Mike deMaio.

The shop, which has estimated billings of $205 million, has clients such as McDonald's Corp. and Procter & Gamble.
