Butler, Shine & Stern's hunt for new talent has led it to hire a client-service specialist.
The Sausalito, Calif., shop last week named Garry K. McGuire Jr. managing director. McGuire, 31, is charged with leading all new-business efforts while working to expand the agency's client-service offerings.
Agency president Greg Stern said he hired McGuire based on recommendations. "We have been talking to our clients and prospects, and everyone is looking for someone who is a strong business partner," Stern said. "We have a strong creative product, but we thought a client perspective would really enhance our offerings."
McGuire's background includes marketing and advertising positions at several Fortune 500 companies. He spent the past eight years in Silicon Valley, working for companies such as Nortel Networks, Tandem Computers, Compaq and Enterasys Networks.
"I had always hoped or intended to work in advertising," McGuire said. "I had talked with a lot of agencies, but the interesting thing about Butler, Shine is they can create an image or mystique in the marketplace in six months."
"We're investing in our future," Stern said. "Adding Garry to our team puts us in a better position to realize our true potential. He provides critical business experience and a perspective many agencies lack—that of a client."
BS&S has worked with clients such as Borders Books, Anheuser-Busch, Disney, Anchor Blue, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Noah's Bagels and Weider Nutrition.
