Larry Barels’ home-business quarters contain a teahouse and koi pool, a setup that can make casual Fridays seem downright pedestrian.
Barels, who founded Driveway.com, a Net service for storing and managing data, is one of 33 million people who run a business from home. Barels, along with trend predictor Faith Popcorn and others, is profiled in the August 2000 debut issue of House of Business.
Eric Lang, CEO of the bimonthly magazine, said it has a paid circulation of 135,000 readers, who are telecommuters employed by large corporations, consultants, entrepreneurs and “people with a household net worth of half a million dollars.”
It’s not surprising that the magazine is chock full of dot-com ads, but Lang said the staff is also interested in “ads for high-tech consumer electronics and upscale home furnishings.”
Upcoming issues will explore business and technology applications, he said.
