Bozell is hiring Megan Kent, formerly managing partner and director of account planning at TBWA/Chiat/Day, and pairing her as executive director of brand planning with Brent Bouchez, executive creative director.
The agency called the move "a new partnership between brand planning and creative." The two will share an office.
Bozell president Tom Bernardin said the agency's decision not to couple Bouchez with an art director has created a "unique pairing between a creative director and a strategic director."
Kent developed a reputation at TBWA/C/D here for working closely with the creative department and going beyond basic account planning duties. She also helped bring in clients, including Prodigy, Outback, Steakhouse, Barnes & Noble and Promus Hotel Corp.
"I've always wanted to tear down the walls between planning and creative. Bozell New York seems to be open-minded enough to let this idea reshape the agency," Kent said in a statement.
Bouchez, who was traveling to Cannes at press time, said in a statement: "The best experiences of my career have been truly collaborative with very smart strategists. We're constantly telling our clients to [likewise] break the mold."
Bouchez is currently in production on his first big chunk of work for Bozell here since joining the agency. A new campaign for Bell Atlantic Mobile, a client which accounted for $130 million in billings in 1998, positions the brand as a cell phone for everyone, rather than mainly a business tool. The new tagline, "It's for you" will debut in the spots.
