NEW YORK -- Rick Boyko, chief creative officer of Ogilvy North America and co-president of Ogilvy & Mather, New York, is retiring from the agency.
Boyko, 54, is leaving to pursue a second career in education as managing director of Virginia Commonwealth University's Adcenter. He will assume that position in July 2003, remaining at the agency through the spring, an Ogilvy representative said.
Bill Gray, 50, his Co-President will assume sole management of the New York office, while David Apicella, 47, and Chris Wall, 46, both currently executive creative directors, will become co-creative heads of Ogilvy New York, an Ogilvy representative said.
Boyko joined Ogilvy in 1989 and has been partnered with Gray running the $1.5 billion New York office for five years. He's had stints at Chiat Day LA and Leo Burnett, Chicago, among other agencies. At Ogilvy, he has been behind some of the agency's department creations including the formation of its design unit, the Brand Integration Group, the Syndicate, a network of independent creative agencies aligned with Ogilvy, and the "Young Guns," an in-house mentoring program for recent graduates of leading art and advertising schools.
Boyko has been on the board Richmond-based VCU for three years.
