BMP DDB Wins Grand Clio in Print

The Grand Clio in print went to BMP DDB, London, for its Volkswagen poster campaign at The 42nd Annual Clio Festival here Wednesday evening.

Tagged "Fun on the outside serious underneath," the Grand Clio winner shows the cutout shape of a Beetle in different materials. One ad shows an animal print fabric revealing a conservative pin stripe inside. BMP DDB also won two gold and two silver statues for the Beetle campaign, as well as two bronzes for VW Gold Estate and Nicorette gum print ads.

The runner up for the grand prize in the Clio Awards print competition was a Kookai campaign from CLM/BBDO, Paris, which features photographs of men's chests, scarred from surgery after heart attacks induced by Kookai's sexy women's clothing. The work garnered three golds and a silver.

F/Nazca S&S, Sao Paulo, Brazil, took home nine statues. The shop won two golds, three silvers and a bronze for its Fundacao SOS Mata Atlantica PSAs, as well as a gold for its America Economia ad titled "Whip." Its ads for Pulligan pantyhose and Suvinil paint won 2 bronzes.

Other gold winners included Heymann/Bengoa/Berbari, Buenos Aires, which won two golds for its Trojan ad, "Bubble." BBDO Canada in Toronto, won a gold for its Jeep ad showing a stop sign sticking out horizontally on the sheer face of a cliff. Along with two other ads in the series, "Gas Pump" and "Parking Meter," BBDO Canada's Jeep work also won one silver and three bronze statues.

BDDP\TBWA, Boulogne Billancourt, earned gold for its Sony PlayStation ad showing a Lara Croft figurine that has replaced the crucifix above a sleeping child. One gold each also went to Holland Mark Advertising in Boston, for its Boston Globe ad, "I have a dream"; Paradiset DDB,
Stockholm, Sweden, for its Diesel "It's real" integrated campaign;McCann-Erickson, Madrid, Spain, for its Medecins Sans Frontieres campaign likening the stitches of terrible wounds to borders between warring countries.

Other U.S. winners included Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, which won three silvers and a bronze for its Gun Control campaign and a bronze for its Nike work. Fallon, Minneapolis won one silver and four bronzes for Sports Illustrated ads, and one bronze each for BMW and Time ads. Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which won four bronzes for print and poster campaigns for Giro Sports Design, GT Bicycles and one bronze for the American Legacy Foundation campaign created in partnership with Arnold, Boston. In addition, Arnold won a silver and two bronzes for its VW "Hey there's a..." campaign. GMO/Hill Holliday garnered three bronzes for its National Day Museum campaign.
