Blue22 has hired former Digitas vice president Randy Hall to build a media department for the Internet marketing startup.
"We do a fair amount of online advertising for our clients, and as we were building Web tools for them we noticed an increased need [for media buying and planning services]," said Robert Guay, president of the Boston agency.
In his role as director of media and metrics for the shop, Hall will oversee media strategy, planning, measurement, and analysis. He will attempt to immediately bring on a media buyer and planner and hopes to have a half-dozen media staffers on board within the next year. Hall reports to Guay, who Hall said he has known since the pair worked at Mullen in Wenham, Mass., some years ago.
"Randy has extensive experience not only in traditional media but in online media as well," said Guay, citing Hall's work with Digitas clients such as Dell Computer and Xerox.
"Digitas is a very big company, and ... a lot of what I did was not quite as hands-on as I would have liked," Hall said.
Digitas' media department took another hit earlier this summer when senior vice president and media director Michael Comins departed the agency for a post as senior vice president and director of media services at HookMedia in Boston [Adweek, June 17].
Officials at Digitas, Boston, did not return calls. K
