SAN FRANCISCO – Despite a Cannes Gold Lion and recognition from the British DA&D, Wieden & Kennedy/Portland, Ore. last week lost its McKenzie River Black Star Beer account to Hal Riney & Partners here. McKenzie spent $40,000 on advertising in 1992, according to Competitive Media. HR&P principal Hal Riney and the McKenzie principals have a long history dating back to the launch of Henry Weinhard beer. Executives at McKenzie were unavailable to comment.
