NEW YORK Interpublic Group vice chairman David Bell was named chairman and CEO of the troubled holding company today. His predecessor, John Dooner, is returning to the job he held prior to moving to IPG in January 2001, worldwide CEO of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup. Dooner, 54, replaces Jim Heekin, 53, who was fired.

In a statement, Frank Borelli, presiding director of the IPG Board of Directors, said “John’s decision is a bold one – for Interpublic to succeed, McCann must lead the way.”
