A titillating "Blondes and Beetles" transit campaign began rolling through the streets of Dallas last week.
The bus-side ad executions contrast a busty blonde and a Volkswagen Beetle, with captions labeling one "High maintenance" and the other "Low maintenance." Two other messages in the series (six versions in all) are "Good curves--Great curves" and "Our American model--Our German model."
Created by automotive ad specialist Bedford Advertising of Carollton, Texas, for local client Metro Volkswagen, the campaign will include billboard, print and radio components.
"Most automotive advertising is not very creative, so it's been a pleasure to have fun with something like this to make Metro really stand out," said Bedford account executive Barry Stevenson.
Ideally, the ad series will run through the remainder of the year--as long as the spots don't get yanked by the Dallas mass transit authority.
"They've already warned us they'll pull them if they get any complaints," Stevenson said.
