NEW YORK Simon Sherwood, group chief operating officer at Publicis Groupe-backed Bartle Bogle Hegarty, has been named CEO, succeeding Nigel Bogle, who becomes group chairman, the company said. Bogle is also an agency co-founder.

Sherwood, who begins as CEO today, will focus on opening an outpost in Mumbai, India, which would bring the number of BBH offices to seven worldwide.

Taking Sherwood's place as COO is Gwyn Jones, formerly CEO of BBH in New York until July 2007, when he left to take a sabbatical.

John Hegarty will continue as worldwide creative director at the shop.

Sherwood joined BBH's London headquarters in 1982 as an account manager. He launched the Singapore office in 1996 and moved back to the U.K. to take the COO post in 1998. He currently manages the relationships for brands such as Unilever and Perfetti van Melle.

"This is like brand management," said Sherwood. "Someone comes on and their job is to perpetuate and continue the good things about it. That's what I see my role here as."
