Freelancer Will Head Creative In N.Y. Office
NEW YORK--Bartle Bogle Hegarty has recruited freelance creative director Ty Montague for the top creative post in its planned New York office, sources said.
Montague, who has been freelancing from his Norwalk, Conn.-based company, Montague &, for the past few years, was on vacation last week and could not be reached.
He was hired by BBH chairman and creative director John Hegarty, who has been making frequent trips to the United States this summer to staff up the office. Hegarty, sources said, will spend a considerable amount of time in New York to help establish the startup, which will also include talent from BBH's home office in London. He could not be reached on Friday.
A copywriter with a solid creative reputation, Montague's most recent staff job was at Lowe & Partners/SMS here, where he served as a group creative director on Mercedes-Benz until 1994. Prior to Lowe, Montague worked at the former Chiat/Day, New York, on Reebok, and at Scali McCabe Sloves. His freelance credits include a Coca-Cola Olympics effort for Wieden & Kennedy and a Black & Decker project for Fallon McElligott Berlin, New York.
"Ty would be a smart choice for John Hegarty," said Andy Berlin, a partner at Berlin Cameron & Partners who hired Montague at FMB, his former roost. "He'd be a great partner to get started with in America."
Montague's most recent new venture was a brand consultancy called Eggtooth, formed last year with Brian Martin, the former new business director at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners. Sources said that partnership is being dissolved and Martin is considering other options.
His creative partner at the freelance company, Chris Landi, also declined comment, other than to say his future plans are undetermined.
