NEW YORK BBDO executive creative director Gerry Graf has accepted an offer to run the New York creative department of sibling Omnicom Group shop TBWA\Chiat\Day, despite attempts by BBDO to keep him, sources said on Friday. The move had been expected [Adweek Online, Nov. 11].

Graf is expected to start his new job of executive creative director at TBWA\C\D next month, said sources.

Graf, a copywriter who works on FedEX, Guinness Draught and Red Stripe beer at BBDO in New York, could not immediately be reached and TBWA\C\D declined comment. A BBDO representative, however, confirmed that Graf had resigned, but declined further comment.

The ecd job at TBWA\C\D has been vacant since June 2002, when previous co-ecds Dallas Itzen and Patrick O'Neill were recast as creative group heads. Graf will become the No. 2 creative in New York behind worldwide creative director John Hunt, whose role is global.

One of six ecds under BBDO North America chief creative officer Ted Sann, Graf, will be the second executive with that title to leave the agency since in the past year. In March, senior ecd Michael Patti shifted to WPP Group's Young & Rubicam to become worldwide creative director and chairman and CEO of the New York office.
