Boston.com took on an unusual role at the recent Jupiter Online Advertising Forum in New York. The electronic publishing arm of The Boston Globe chose to become the event's official bathroom sponsor.
"We like to do things that are unexpected," said Lisa DeSisto, marketing manager of Boston.com.
The sponsorship included logos on toothbrushes, mints and towels left in men's and women's rest rooms as well as signs in each stall that read, "Clear your cache here: courtesy of Boston.com" and "Boston.com: number one and number two in New England."
While the sponsorship has not yet yielded any new business, DeSisto said 15 potential clients have approached Boston.com's sales representatives. "A lot of these conferences can be a bore," DeSisto said. "But people were just raving about it."
