CD Robertson Comes West; Creatives Join
LOS ANGELES--Bates USA West continues to shuffle the team handling its $150 million Hyundai Motor America account.
Mike Robertson, the New York-based creative director who has been overseeing Hyundai creative, has been named vice chairman of Bates in Irvine, Calif. He will continue to lead creative on the account, working with president and chief executive Tim Hart.
The agency has also hired four midlevel creatives with automotive ad experience: copywriter David George, associate creative director Ed Miller, art director Imke Daniel and junior art director Ana Deenen. The hires follow the departure this summer of four or five staffers, including senior art director Mark Forer and senior copywriter Lee Oliver, said sources.
Robertson took the creative reins on Hyundai in April, following the departure of Irvine-based Richard Butt [Adweek, May 31]. He will help Bates build the agency's West Coast operation.
"We recently opened a new Beverly Hills location, and we're looking to grow [billings] and continue to service the Hyundai business on a more global basis," Hart said.
He said beefing up the Beverly Hills outpost, which has about 15 staffers after absorbing the broadcast production group from Irvine, "will better position [the agency] to pursue additional clients in the L.A. area."
