DALLAS Bates Southwest Advertising & Public Relations has picked up more business from Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, the shop said.

The Houston agency has been awarded advertising chores for the fast-food chain's San Antonio market. Bates will be responsible for all general-market creative and media duties, and may also handle Spanish-language creative and media, shop representative Shannon Otermat said.

The shop won the account without a review. The business shifted from GlobalHue's San Antonio office, which only had the account since January. Interpublic Group's Temerlin McClain of Irving, Texas, held the account before that shift.

Bates could not comment on the reasons behind the shift from GlobalHue, which is 49 percent owned by IPG. The client could not be immediately reached.

Last month Bates won Popeyes' Houston advertising account in a strategic review that included incumbent Temerlin and two undisclosed agencies. With 90 outlets, Houston is the client's largest market.

Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos of New York continues to handle brand work for the client. Popeyes has nearly 1,700 locations throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and 21 other countries. The chain is a division of AFC Enterprises.

Atlanta-based Popeyes spent $20 million on media through November last year, according to CMR.
