Coulrophobia, defined as an abnormal and persistent fear of clowns, is a fairly new word, no more than a few decades old. (The Greeks evidently didn’t have a word for clown in the modern sense.) Now, we’re fairly sure McDonald’s could care less about the affliction, given that a sporty Ronald McDonald is at the center of its new campaign (see page 29). But for kicks, we decided to ask a leader of the anti-clown community how much anti-Ronald sentiment is out there.
