BOSTON McCarthy Mambro Bertino has hired Don Austen as associate creative director, a new position.

Austen, a copywriter, joined the Boston-based shop this week and will work on all agency accounts, including Atari and Tweeter. Austen reports to president and co-creative director Fred Bertino and co-creative director Jamie Mambro.

"What attracted us to Don, in the end, was his desire to do great work, to build relationships with clients so great work can get sold, and to have fun wherever possible," said Bertino.

Returning to his native Boston after a nearly 20-year stint in New York, Austen cited MMB's high-quality creative and size as draws. "My best experience by far was at [Cliff Freeman and Partners] ... I learned it's a rare place where they go out on a limb and sell good creative," Austen said. "I wanted to go back to a place like that ...[MMB] is the same size [and] it's young."

Besides a four year-stint at Cliff Freeman, Austen has worked at Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam and Foote, Cone & Belding. Most recently, Austen has been freelancing. Over the years, Austen has worked for a variety of clients including Little Caesars, FedEx and AT&T.

"I'm hoping to grow with [MMB]," said Austen. "I feel like I'm getting in on the ground floor."
