BOSTON Arnold today breaks a pair of 30-second TV spots and new print work for The Hartford. Ads support the financial services company’s investment products.

The effort employs an understated tone and soft-sell approach to get its point across.

In “Batting Cage,” a group of middle-aged men are shown swinging at, and usually missing, the baseballs tossed by a mechanical pitcher. The question, “Is retirement coming at you like this?” flashes on screen, an arrow pointing to the “Fast” setting of the pitching machine.
