John Armistead, one of the longest-tenured creative directors in the Los Angeles ad market, is expected to leave D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles' Los Angeles office by the end of this year or early next, sources said.
Armistead, who has served as the shop's executive creative director for 12 years, has been concerned, sources said, with the creative direction of the $150 million agency. He decided to move on after talking with executive vice president and managing director Diane Krouse about her plans, sources said. The office handles such clients as General Motors, Blue Cross of California and NBC. The two are expected to work together to find replacement, likely from outside.
Armistead referred calls to Krouse, who declined to comment.
The office this year lost two large clients, Gateway 2000 and Baskin-Robbins, but recently landed Mitsubishi Electric and Chandon Estates. Ron Boyd, a senior vice president at the shop, also recently left to join Magnet Interactive's West Coast office as general manager.
During his career, Armistead has been involved in many high-profile campaigns, including the Joe Isuzu efforts at the former Della Femina McNamee, Los Angeles, and GM and Baskin-Robbins work at DMB&B.
