NEW YORK — AOL has laid off about 90 people, or about 14 percent, from its 640-person interactive marketing division, sources said.

The cuts, which affected local ad sales and support people, were made to align resources with the contracted regional ad market, sources said. About 40 jobs were eliminated at AOL’s Dulles, Va., headquarters, 12 in New York and the remainder in other U.S. offices.

About 550 staffers remain at the online marketing division of the AOL Time Warner Internet unit.
