AOL Time Warner Inc. has agreed to modify advertisements for its America Online business to avoid any suggestions that its user-privacy protections apply to the Internet at large.

At the request of the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, AOL (AOL) will stop using phrases like the following, which appeared in a recent television ad: “At AOL, your privacy and security are always protected.”

The Internet-service provider has privacy protections in place for its subscribers while they are visiting Web sites within AOL’s network and with AOL partner sites.
