The owners of La Tropical Brewing Company, makers of Cuba’s first and

foremost beer, La Tropical, have signed a national distribution deal with Fischer Beverages International.

Marketing, handled by Sanchez & Levitan in Miami, will attempt to break out the brew by focusing on Cuba’s”glory” years of the 1950s as represented by cultural icons such as Desi Arnaz and the showgirls of theTropicana Hotel.

The original island-brewed La Tropical, an international award-winning beer, was nationalized by Castro and then disappeared from the marketplace.

Today’s beer is produced in a former Stroh’s facility in South Florida by Ramon Blanco Herrera, a great-grandson of the founding family.

“We cannot disclose its location,” joked agency president Fausto Sanchez.

Fisher, a division of Holland’s Heineken NV, is one of the world’s largest brewers.
