In truth, what the in-house coffee shop is fueling is AIDS research. Staffers pay $1 for a lattƒ, or up to $3 for a fruit smoothie (with or without ginseng or protein powder), with proceeds donated to the Pediatric AIDS Chicago organization.
In 1998, the beverage tab donation hit $27,000.
The agency is committed to doing more than just gathering change for children with AIDS. Each August, employees in its Chicago and New York offices can serve as counselors at Birch Summer Camp, which welcomes kids with AIDS and their families.
Employees who work at the camp remain on company-paid time.
