CHICAGO Interpublic Group’s Draft has been awarded direct duties for American Century Investment, the agency confirmed. The move had been expected [Adweek Online, Dec. 30].

The Kansas City, Mo., investment management firm selected the Chicago shop over WPP Group’s Wunderman, Chicago, and independent Bernstein-Rein, Kansas City. Incumbent Digitas, a Boston independent, did not participate. Select Resources International in Santa Monica, Calif., managed the review.

“American Century is a great company with strong investment performance, yet we don’t have the recognition for this among many direct mutual fund investors,” said Lisa Johnston, vice president of direct marketing for the client, in a statement explaining the review and Draft’s mission.
