WASHINGTON, D.C. Johnson & Johnson corporate vp, advertising Andrea Alstrup was named chairperson of the Advertising Council at a board meeting on Tuesday.

Alstrup, who has been on the Ad Council’s board since 1995, replaces David Bell, chairman and CEO of The Interpublic Group of Cos. Alstrup will serve for one year. She also serves on the boards of the American Advertising Federation and the Association of National Advertisers.

Also elected to the Ad Council’s board are: Paul Alexander, vp of advertising, Campbell Brands; Jody Bilney, evp and chief marketing officer, Charles Schwab and Company; Thomas Curley, president and publisher of USA Today (Curley becomes president and publisher of The Associated Press June 1); Deborah Dick-Rath, ed of global advertising, Novartis Pharmaceuticals; Gary Elliot, vp of global brand and marketing communications, Hewlett-Packard Company; Susan Gianinno, chairman and CEO, Publicis in the U.S.;
