ALABAMA CBS&R in Montgomery recently received four awards of excellence from the Southern Public Relations Federation, which honors public relations efforts in Alabama, Mississippi, northwest Florida and Louisiana. The shop won for its work for the Alabama Soft Drink Association, the Mall of Louisiana, Hughes Data Systems and the Battered Women's Program of Baton Rouge, La. FLORIDA Greenstone Roberts, based in Orlando, has launched a new division, GR Research. The venture will offer clients comprehensive marketing and advertising research services. Beazer Homes Florida, the Tampa division of Beazer Homes USA, has signed with John Heagney Public Relations in Holiday. Altimax Advertising Agency in New Port Richey has signed four new clients. They are: The Foot Surgery Center, Interventional Cardiac Care, Pasco Hernando Surgical Associates and Hunters Ridge Apartments. JGR & Associates in Miami has acquired Abbaticchio & Limner Communications in Miami Beach. The latter specializes in the travel and hospitality industries. CreatAbility in Coral Gables was chosen by Hair Cuttery to create, produce and traffic its Hispanic marketing radio for all South Florida salons. GEORGIA Atlanta advertising agency Ad Babies was hired to handle the account of Alliance of Independent Restaurateurs in Atlanta. Duffey Communications in Atlanta was assigned to assist in the opening of the Nichole Miller boutique this month in Lenox Square. The agency will also handle a fashion show hosted by Ms. Miller next year. Grizzard in Atlanta has been picked to develop a direct marketing program for the Salvation Army of Canada. The agency has worked with the group in this country for more than 50 years. Interweb in Atlanta was contracted to develop Georgia Technology Online, a virtual showcase of the state's high-tech companies for Georgia Technology Month. MARYLAND Strategic Communications Group in Silver Spring was selected by Progressive Office to develop a direct mail campaign targeted at small businesses, associations and law firms. Emergency Brake Technologies of Joppa has placed its advertising account with The Reeves Agency in Baltimore. NORTH CAROLINA Lippi & Co. Advertising in Charlotte took home a gold in the self-promotion category at the 17th annual Business Marketing Association awards ceremony last month. The agency also received seven bronze awards. The honors were for Lippi's work for Chesterfield Manufacturing, Oneita Industries, Barry T. Chouinard Inc. and Flexible Products. Two pro bono efforts and one in-house advertising campaign by Wray-Ward-Laseter, Charlotte, were selected for publication in the 1997 Creativity Annual. The public service work was produced for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police De-partment and the Charlotte-Meck-lenburg school system. Strike Force Marketing Group in Charlotte received 11 ProAd awards from the Business Marketing Associa-tion. The agency was cited for work it produced for Philips Components, Akzo Nobel, BASF, Shakespeare Electronics, S&D Coffee and ABTco Building Products. Loeffler Ketchum Mountjoy, Charlotte, earned five awards of excellence from Communication Arts. The agency was lauded for its work with North Carolina Travel and Tourism, the North Carolina Film Commission and Richard McCoy, CPA. J.C. Thomas Marketing Communications in Charlotte won the Allen Barney/Best of Show award at the Carolinas Business Marketing Association competition for its efforts on behalf of First Alliance Logistics Management. SOUTH CAROLINA Leslie Advertising in Greenville has won the business of Broadway at the Beach and Myrtle Square Mall. Both locations are properties of the Burroughs & Chapin Co. of Myrtle Beach. TENNESSEE Endres Eng Wilson in Nashville has signed two-time Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple for an upcoming campaign for Saint Thomas Health Services. Kopple won her Oscars in the documentary feature category. VIRGINIA The Richmond chapter of the American Marketing Association was recently presented the Overall Chapter Excellence award from the national AMA organization. Each of the association's chapters is graded on financial performance, membership and member satisfaction, among other measures of success. Barker, Campbell, Farley & Mansfield in Virginia Beach was awarded the advertising account of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. The client is an educational institution of the Commonwealth of Virginia and administers two living history museums. The Meridian Group-Marketing Communications of Virginia Beach has opened offices in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Charleston, S.C. The operations were established to service existing clients in those markets, as well as new business efforts. MC Direct, a direct response marketing company based in Poway, Calif., has opened an East Coast operations center in Virginia Beach. The office was established to service clients east of the Mississippi River.
