Newsday has selected Welch, Nehlen & Groome, Garden City, to promote "Long Island: Our Story," a 225-part multimedia history series that will run from September 1997 through June 1998.
Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, New York, has acquired additional business from Reynolds Metals Co. following an internal company review. Saatchi, now the agency for all advertising programs of the client's consumer products division, picked up ad duties for Reynolds Oven Bags, Cut-Rite wax paper and Paper Maid parchment paper. The new brands are in addition to the shop's current assignments on Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil, Crystal Clear plastic wrap and Crystal Color plastic wrap. Billing figures were not released.
Mercury Refining Co., Albany, has retained R.T. Blass, Old Chatham, to provide advertising, public relations, trade show support as well as Internet site development and management.
Cain Associates, New York, has added outerwear and sportswear company Bear USA to its client roster. Cain will handle all advertising, marketing and public relations for the client, which is based in Secaucus, N.J.
The U.S. Mint has assigned the design, print advertising and media planning for its 1997 fall and holiday coin catalogs to DMTG, New York. The overall budget is estimated at $2 million. Other agencies participating in the review included Grey Direct and Henry J. Kaufman & Associates.
Lou Hammond & Associates, New York, has added five new clients to its public relations roster: Tavern on the Green and Restaurant No. 18, both in New York; Mexicana Airlines and Le Mƒridien Cancœn in Mexico; and, on a special project basis, Montrƒal Jazz Festival.
Kemwel Holiday Autos, formed as a result of the merger between two car rental broker companies-U.S.-based Kemwel Group and Holiday Autos in the United Kingdom-has named SKC Advertising, Harrison, agency of record for its $1 million-plus account. SKC has begun providing creative and media buying services for a print campaign targeted primarily at the travel trade for KHA. The client has more than 4,000 locations in 60 countries.
Sanna Mattson MacLeod, Smithtown, was chosen agency of record for Sulzer Metco, a Swiss manufacturer of thermal coating equipment and materials. SMM will develop an international print campaign, including foreign language advertising and direct mail, and media strategy for the client's markets in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals has assigned the direct-to-consumer campaign for Havrix, the company's hepatitis A vaccine, to Rubin Ehrenthal & Associates in New York.
Eric Mower and Associates, Albany, was selected the national agency of record for Garden Way, a Troy-based manufacturer of lawn, garden and snow removal equipment. Preliminary estimates by the client project 12-month advertising, marketing, public relations and sales promotion spending in the $8-10 million range. Separately, Arby's Buffalo Restaurant Co-op has designated EMA's office in Rochester its agency of record, responsible for planning and placing media for all its members in Western New York. Currently, the agency is in charge of media placement for Arby's restaurants in Rochester and Syracuse.
CyberPR, formerly a division of Poppe Tyson Public Relations, has become an operational unit of Bozell Sawyer Miller Group in New York.
Erin/Edwards, Glen Head, was contracted by First Quality Hygienic, Great Neck, to design packaging for a branded feminine hygiene product and selective private label accounts.
