NEW YORK Altec Lansing Technologies, a Milford, Pa.-based provider of audio systems for the computer industry, has tapped Hampel/Stefanides, New York, to handle its advertising chores without a review. Anderson Lembke was the prior agency of record. TBWA Worldwide, headquartered in New York, has expanded its presence in Latin America with an equity position in Costa Rica's W Publicidad and an affiliate agreement with Interandina de Publicidad in Peru. Terms were not disclosed. W Publicidad is now known as TBWA Costa Rica, and Interandina de Publicidad is now Interandina TBWA. TBWA Worldwide, part of Omnicom Group, now has offices or affiliates in more than 60 countries. Harrison Leifer Miller & Speyer, Rockville Centre, won top honors in the business-to-business and magazine insert categories at the 1998 Best on Long Island Awards. The shop took first place for its two-color print ad for SpeciGard, a disposable specimen transport bag manufactured by Uniflex. The agency's magazine insert for hotel marketer IHM Systems won a gold award. New York-based BSMG Worldwide has won five awards in the Creativity in Public Relations competition. The trophies, handed out at a ceremony at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria hotel, were in the crisis management, telecommunications, magazine story placement, speechwriting and Web site marketing categories. Goodnight, Rav, Water Mill Square, has been awarded a direct marketing assignment from Trump Marina Hotel Casino, Atlantic City, N.J., following a creative shootout against two other undisclosed agencies. Billings were undisclosed. Toymax, a Plainview-based creator of technologically advanced toys, has tapped Avrett, Free & Ginsberg as its advertising agency. The shop will promote Toymax's existing brands, including Laser Challenge and Precious Metals, and will handle the launch of R.A.D. Robot and other product lines in the fall. The company also announced the hiring of media agencies Paul Schulman & Co., Advanswers, and Creative Media under media management firm Deitch Media Management. McCaffery Raner Gottlieb & Lane, an advertising agency on Olympus America's roster, has created a new national print and radio campaign for the client's D1000 Digital Voice Recorder with IBM ViaVoice Transcription software. The campaign broke June 16 with a half-page newspaper advertisment in The Wall Street Journal, and will be supported with a national radio campaign on Bloomberg Business Radio stations and print ads in other business publications. Print ads feature the headline, "You talk. It types. Anywhere." The Advertising Council, New York, has broken a new public-service campaign on behalf of the National Fatherhood Initiative, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to encourage men to be committed, responsible fathers. TV spots, which broke on Father's Day, feature golf superstar Tiger Woods and his father, Earl Woods. The spots, produced by New York shop Korey Kay & Partners, feature footage of the father and son embracing after Woods' win in the 1997 Masters tournament. A voiceover, narrated by actor Ossie Davis, states, "A father can change the world--one child at a time." The same image is featured in print ads with the headline, "It takes a man to be a dad." MediaLogic, an Albany-based advertising, marketing and public relations firm, was honored in Healthcare Marketing Report's 15th annual Healthcare Marketing Awards competition. The shop won a gold award for its campaign for MVP Health Plan, and also received a gold for a series of radio spots for MVP's 1997 Fall Open Enrollment Campaign and a merit award for TV spots for that campaign. MediaLogic also won a silver for its newspaper insert for FoxCare Community. More than $3 million in scholarship funds were doled out during the 33rd annual Direct Marketing Days conference, held June 1-3 in New York. New York University received the largest grant, for its masters' program in direct marketing. The Charles K. Kavanaugh Memorial Fund will also provide five scholarships for undergraduate marketing students at NYU. Other schools and organizations receiving grants through the program include Keuka College, Baruch College, the Direct Marketing Club of New York, the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University and the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Columbine JDS, a provider of computer-based management systems for the broadcast and advertising industries and a subsidiary of New York-based Big Flower Holdings, has acquired KTS Information Systems, a New York-based provider of specialty software for ad agencies, and Adtraq Data Systems, a provider of similar software in Canada. Thompson & Bender, Briarcliff Manor, won 15 awards during the Advertising Club of Westchester's 27th annual Big W awards. The shop won two silver medals for its public relations efforts and five bronze medals for various advertising and public relations efforts. The Rainbow Agency, the New York-based advertising subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corp., has created the first TV image spot for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark. The commercial was a collaboration between the agency and the Cablevision-owned channel News 12 New Jersey. NEW JERSEY Giacalone & Wood, Hopatcong, has been named ad agency for Victoria Vogue, a Bethlehem, Pa.-based supplier of cosmetic accessories. The shop will develop a national consumer advertising campaign for the client, beginning with an ad in the September edition of InStyle magazine. The MWW Group, East Rutherford, has added two new clients: Bethlehem Steel, the nation's second-largest steel company with $5 billion in annual revenues; and Ronald Schmidt & Associates, a provider of architecture, interior design, planning and project management services. PENNSYLVANIA August Design, an Ardmore-based technology firm specializing in custom hardware, software and electronics design, has named Schubert Communications, Downingtown, as its public relations agency of record. Dudnyk Healthcare, Horsham, was honored with the Best Self-Promotion award by the editors of Med Ad News, a publication covering the healthcare marketing industry. Elkman Advertising & Public Relations, Philadelphia, won a pair of trophies in the 1998 Telly awards. The shop was awarded a silver trophy for a 30-second spot produced for Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, and a bronze finalist trophy for a 30-second spot for VoiceNet, a regional Internet service provider based in Ivyland.
