- CONNECTICUT William Cronin, president of Glastonbury-based Cronin & Co., has received a commendation from Connecticut Gov. John Rowland for his commitment to ending child abuse. Cronin serves on the Children›s Trust Fund Council. In 1998, his agency formed Partnership to Prevent Child Abuse, the state›s first effort linking public and private sectors to educate communities about child-abuse prevention. The Partnership was selected by the national Prevent Child Abuse America organization and the Advertising Council of America to lead their national prevention campaign. KGA Advertising, Middletown, has been given the Outstanding Support Award by the Connecticut Mentoring Partnership of the state Drugs Don›t Work program, in recognition of the shop›s work on its ad campaign. BrainBug, a Farmington interactive agency, has opened a second office at 65 Broadway, New York. - MASSACHUSETTS Brodeur Worldwide›s global consumer technology practice recently landed three new clients: MapQuest.com, Edu.com and Palm Reach. For MapQuest, an online mapping site, the Boston-based public relations agency is working on a consumer Web site and branding programs in the United States and the Netherlands. Brodeur›s offices in the United Kingdom and Germany will begin working on the account next year. Brodeur is supporting the U.S. launch of Edu.com, an e-commerce site for college students. For Palm Reach, a Stockholm, Sweden-based developer of technology for mobile and wireless products, the agency is assisting with consumer brand building and industry trade programs in the U.S and the U.K. Maria LoCone has launched LoConte.2 (L.2) following the closing of LoConte Goldman Design, Boston. L.2 is a design group dedicated to providing high-end visual solutions for television, cable and advertising. Former partner Patrice Goldman is not involved in the new Brookline-based company. One of L.2›s first projects is to relaunch Country Music Television internationally, in conjunction with Smash Advertising, Boston. Prior to forming a partnership with Patrice Goldman in 1992, LoConte was principal of her own company, Maria LoConte Design, founded in 1986. In over 20 years, LoConte has won more than 100 Broadcast Designers Association awards and has been honored by the Directors Clubs of both New York and Boston, among others. She has worked with clients such as ABC, NBC, ESPN and A&E. TechMarcom of Westford and Read-Poland Associates of Austin, Texas, have agreed to team up as needed to serve tech startups and new dot.coms with limited budgets for marketing and public relations. NEC subsidiary ObTech is working with Boston-based communications and design firm Oxygen on a new name, Canopy, and brand identity. Oxygen also has designed two invitation packages and recruitment material for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology›s department of civil and environmental engineering. Red Brick Design of North Chelmsford was selected by Centennial Technologies and LHS Priority Call to design and implement new product campaigns. Red Brick will break a print trade campaign for Wilmington, Mass.-based Centennial, a PC card manufacturer, early this year. For LHS, the shop will produce an interactive CD-ROM to educate staff, resellers and users about its telecommunications services. Olive Jar Studios of Boston has animated three identifications for NBC, including ˜TV Man," who is forged out of old televisions and electronic gizmos. The Direct Results Group has relocated to 320 Congress Street, Boston. The 15,500-square-foot office can hold three times more staff members than the prior location. Stephen Burdick Design, Boston, is working on several new projects: ad campaigns and promotional merchandising materials for Wainwright Bank, violence prevention posters and brochures for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, HIV education posters for the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, a report for the Physicians for Social Responsibility and an annual report for Project Place. Barrett Communications of Cambridge recently completed the design of a new image of Dataware Technologies, a Cambridge-based e-business solutions provider. Protocol Communications, Boston, an Internet marketing services company, has entered into an agreement with several private equity firms for a $205 million recapitalization.
