FLORIDA At the 7th annual Association of Independent Commercial Producers Show, "The Art and Technique of the American Television Commercial," the Florida chapter of the organization presented Music ˆ la Carte's Laura and Rene Barge of Miami its Members of the Year award. Cramer-Krasselt in Orlando has been named the first agency for the Florida Concrete & Products Association, also Orlando. The agency has been tapped to provide research and planning, broadcast, print, media, public relations, collateral, trade show and promotional services. C-K won the business after a four-month review. The Miami creative team of Liz Kelly and Peter Kastan has developed and is marketing "Scout Miami," a CD-ROM for location scouting. The two-set package covers shooting sites in South Florida, ranging from the Miami-Dade County area to the Keys. It includes 16,000 pictures in 200 categories. Walker/Fitzgibbon TV & Film Productions in Miami produced and directed 30- and 15-second TV spots for Spanish rock performer Shakira. The ads are slated to air worldwide to promote her new album. The company also produced and directed a five-minute "rockumentary" in support of the release, with translations in English, Portuguese and Spanish. GEORGIA The Newsletter Factory in Atlanta won three awards at the Golden Flame competition, sponsored by the Atlanta chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. Honors include a silver award for its Holiday Clubs International work and two honorable mentions for its Norrell and Atlanta Gamecock News efforts. Aaron Rents has assigned the advertising for its rent-to-rent division to Atlanta's Carroll/White Advertising, which will launch a new campaign in 1999. The agency has been handling Aaron's business since 1992. Crawford Communications in Atlanta recently completed 500 on-air episodic promotional spots for the syndicated run of Friends for Tribune Creative Services and Warner Bros. The company provided post-production, audio and duplication services for more than 200 TV stations across the country. Tribune has been a client of Crawford for 14 years. Baron, McDonald & Wells has changed its name to Socket Public Relations. The change reflects the Atlanta shop's high-tech focus. The firm, founded in 1991, also has offices in Austin, Texas; Arlington, Va.; and Research Triangle Park, N.C. Weber Public Relations Worldwide in Atlanta has added two clients: the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia and Biomedical Disposal. The former is an organization of more than 70 municipally owned gas distributors in Georgia, while the latter specializes in the disposal of hazardous biomedical waste for the healthcare industry. NancyLopezGolf, a division of Arnold Palmer Co., has hired Atlanta's Huey/ Paprocki to handle its brand advertising efforts. The agency's campaign will consist primarily of three 30-second TV spots that will run on cable's The Golf Channel and print ads in Golf for Women, Golf Digest Woman and Golf World. MARYLAND FCNB Bank has hired Stern Agency of Columbia to handle planning, creative development and media services for its 28 branches. The bank looked at two other undisclosed shops during the review. Marlon Industries, a maker and distributor of industrial cleaning products in North America, has named The Reeves Agency of Baltimore to provide marketing, creative, media, market research, direct mail and public relations services. The shop also launched the first phase of a marketing campaign for Mass Transit Administration. NORTH CAROLINA Corder Philips & Wilson in Charlotte recently developed a business-to-business marketing campaign for EMCO Electronics, a supplier of liquid crystal displays. The series introduces Mitra, a new sunlight-immune LCD designed primarily for use in automated teller machines. Cadmus Direct in Charlotte has formed an alliance with MBO, a direct marketing agency in the U.K. Cadmus Direct is a unit of Cadmus Communications Corp., a publicly traded company in Richmond, Va. SOUTH CAROLINA Lesnik Himmelsbach Wilson Hearl & Hirsch in Myrtle Beach has been retained as agency for Myrtle Waves Water Park. The shop will be responsible for all ad duties, from creative strategy to media placement. Hands on Greenville, a local nonprofit group that creates, organizes and leads volunteer opportunities in the community, has chosen The Lewis Group of Greenville as its interactive agency of record. TENNESSEE The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Convention and Trade Center has revealed plans for a new marketing campaign after hiring Johnson Group Advertising & Marketing and Johnson Waterhouse Public Relations, also in Chattanooga. TEXAS McCann-Erickson Southwest in Houston has launched a TV, radio, print and online campaign for Mothers Against Drunk Driving of Irving. Aimed at college students, the ads convey sometimes overlooked dangers associated with underage drinking, including sexual assault. PR/Texas in Fort Worth earned a best corporate communications program award at the 1998 Airport Marketing Awards competition sponsored by OAG Worldwide. The winning entry was for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Tequila Mockingbird in Austin scored GSD&M's latest 30 second TV spot for Haggar, " '30s Guy." Bates Churchill Public Relations in Houston was selected by KVM Technologies to develop marketing communications for the Envoy Automated Medication System. The publishing division of Hand & Associates Marketing Communications in Dallas has launched the first issue of Addison and the North Dallas Corridor Visitor's Guide. Circulation is 30,000. VIRGINIA KSK Communications in Vienna has added the business of Blue Ridge Networks in Chantilly. The client is the maker of a high-grade, secure-communications product suite that allows customers remote access to information using public media
