Students at the Boston University School of Public Health have created a 30-second TV PSA, a brochure and a Web site designed to educate the public and policy makers about the potential implications of budget cuts on health-related state services.
The spot sports the tagline, "From the streets to the statehouse," and features brief vignettes with student actors. The goal: Remind viewers that money spent on public-health services helps to provide everyday societal safeguards.
A voiceover wonders, "Who cares about our health? Who cares about the safety of our children? Who safeguards the food we eat? Who helps reduce smoking? Who's there for us on the front lines and behind closed doors?" The answer, of course, is public health services, which the ad concludes are invaluable for "Keeping us safe. Keeping us informed. Keeping us connected."
They are also indispensible, in no small measure, for keeping the BU program's members employed after graduation.
