The number of protests received in Canada about the content in advertisements reached a record high in 2000, according to a new report from Advertising Standards Canada. More than half the complaints registered objections to the various depictions of sex and violence in ads. Unilever Canada was singled out for a laundry detergent commercial in which a teenager directs a dump truck to cover him with dirt. The ASC ruled the action “was potentially dangerous, particularly if imitated by children.”
