Stronger-than-expected economic data boosted the Dow Jones Industrial Average at week’s end, lifting with it shares in the marketing-communications industry. On the Big Board, Interpublic Group rose 1.9 percent to close the week at $12.87; Omnicom Group climbed 2.1 percent to $60.30; and British holding company WPP Group, trading as American Depository Receipts on the Nasdaq, jumped 4.3 percent to $35.61. On Friday, Merrill Lynch issued an optimistic forecast on the ad industry’s prospects, saying a recovery is under way, based on recent media expenditures.
