NEW YORK Ackerman McQueen won top honors for its LeapFrog spot at the New York American Marketing Association’s 36th annual Effie Awards Tuesday night.

The Grand Effie-winning ad for the Emeryville, Calif.-based client shows a young girl using LeapFrog’s LeapPad books, which have an audio component that helps children sound-out words and learn to read. It was created by the Berkley, Calif., and Dallas offices of Ackerman McQueen.

Effie 2004 chair Bruce Meyers praised the spot, pointing out that it was created by a midsize shop, not a large global agency.
