Six agencies have emerged as contenders in Starbucks Coffee Co.'s review for its Southwest regional marketing duties, according to sources.
The agencies are Kalis & Savage, Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa, Calif.; The Fuller Group, The Motta Company and The Phelps Group, all in Los Angeles; and a public relations firm in Salt Lake City, sources said.
Most of the agencies met with the client late last month, and a decision is expected soon.
Reviews are being conducted concurrently in Canada and five regions in the U.S. Mike Agate and Catherine Bension of Select Resources International in Los Angeles are conducting the reviews on behalf of Seattle-based client. Seattle agencies Herring/Newman and Borders, Perrin and Norrander are among the shops that are pitching the Northwest regional marketing duties this week, sources said.
The regional reviews do not affect Starbucks' relationship with its national ad agency,
Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco.
"We hope to have the firms on board by the end of the year [in all regions]," said Chris Gimbl, a Starbucks representative.
Gimbl declined to comment on budgets and finalists.
