CHICAGO Circuit City executives will meet with remaining semifinalist agencies this week as part of the review for the broadcast creative portion of the retailer's $150 million account, sources said.
The list was shortened to five last week when the incumbent, Interpublic Group's Foote Cone & Belding, and the Richmond, Va.-based electronics chain agreed to split, a company representative said.
An FCB representative was not available to comment on the split.
A cut to three finalists is expected after meetings that go through Friday, sources said. Still in the hunt are IPG's McCann Erickson in New York and The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.; Grey Global Group's Grey in New York; and independents Doner in Southfield, Mich., and The Richards Group in Dallas.
FCB in Chicago won the account in March 2001. The shop was being evaluated separately from the other contenders in the review, which is being run by consultancy Hasan + Co. in Raleigh, N.C.
Among those involved in this week's meetings are Ernie Speranza, former international chief marketing officer at Toys R Us, who joined Circuit City as its first CMO on April 19.
