BOSTON Networking products provider 3Com Corp. has issued a request for proposals in an effort to find an agency to support its Americas Marketing Group.

The assignment will include creative duties involving brand, product and channel advertising as well as media buying, according to the RFP. The client is looking for an agency that has strengths in specific vertical markets including education, government, healthcare and finance, according to the RFP.

A 3Com representative provided no additional information and executives at the company's offices in Santa Clara, Calif., and Northborough, Mass., did not return calls.

The budget was not disclosed, but 3Com spent $5 million on advertising last year, according to CMR, down from a high of $31 million in 2000.

The company's last agency was Interpublic Group's Lowe, New York, but that relationship ended in 2001.

Last month, the technology firm announced a joint venture with Huawei Technologies of Hong Kong. The venture is designed to strengthen the positions of both companies in the enterprise networking market, currently dominated by Cisco, sources said.
