NEW YORK Google grabbed the No. 2 spot in an annual brand-loyalty study that is due out this month.
The search engine, which rose from last year's No. 8 ranking, was runner-up to car-rental company Avis, which earned the top spot for the second consecutive year.
The results are from the Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Index, which is based on twice-yearly phone interviews with 16,000 consumers, who are asked to rate 182 brands in 31 categories.
Two other dot-com brands were ranked among the top 25 loyalty leaders. Web portal Yahoo! jumped from No. 16 to No. 14, while e-commerce giant Amazon went from No. 17 to No. 12.
