BOSTON Savings Bank of Danbury has tapped independent shop Donaldson Makoski for advertising and marketing chores.

Separately, NewportFed, a savings bank in Newport, R.I., has hired McDougall & Duval for advertising and public relations. The independent shop in Amesbury, Mass., was also enlisted by Ayer. Mass.-based North Middlesex Savings Bank for a customer-acquisition direct marketing effort and by Strata Bank in Franklin, Mass., for a direct program targeting customers over 50.
"Now more than ever, community banks and other financial institutions need to assert themselves in the face of competition from mega-institutions as well as other smaller organizations," said agency chief executive Daniel Duval.
