Y&R's Shelley Diamond Takes New Global Role

Veteran account leader becomes chief client officer

Diamond has worked at Y&R since 1991.

In 23 years at Young & Rubicam, Shelley Diamond has managed many of its key accounts, including Dell, Campbell's and Xerox. Now she's taking that experience to a new level.

Diamond has assumed the global role of chief client officer, a new position that puts her in the inner circle of Y&R's worldwide management team, which includes CEO David Sable, chief creative officer Tony Granger and planning director Sandy Thompson.

Previously, Diamond was managing partner. In her new job, she'll work closely with account and office leaders to help manage global, regional and local accounts. In addition to addressing service needs, Diamond will aim to expand client relationships into new regions and disciplines. Accordingly, she'll interact with Y&R units like VML, Iconmobile and Labstore as well as Y&R Group shops like Wunderman and Bravo.

Diamond, who joined the agency in 1991 as an account director on Xerox, "has a great love of our business, our clients and our people that infuses all that she does," Sable said. "Unleashing her enthusiasm and her expertise will make a real difference."

Before Y&R, Diamond worked at agencies like Draft, Grey and Ted Bates. Her first ad job was as an assistant media planner on Warner Lambert at Ted Bates. It was Xerox, however, that got her to Y&R, as that account shifted from Bates to Y&R and the marketer, fittingly, recommended that Y&R hire her. Beyond her account leadership roles, Diamond also ran the New York office from 2007 to 2010.

As client services chief, Diamond intends to support top account leaders at Y&R's 187 offices but also give them plenty of room to do their jobs, as marketers seek better, cheaper, faster solutions to their problems. As Diamond put it, "Really great smart [account] people can run their business. And you're there to help them, help them raise their game and help them focus on doing things that are going to add value to the client."
