Young & Rubicam has handed the Chisholm Mingo Group the African-American portion of its $100 million Census 2000 account, but the shift is already raising eyebrows.
Y&R won the account with J. Curtis & Co. in Montclair, N.J., but shifted the business after government officials voiced concerns about Curtis’ work, sources said. John Curtis defended his shop, noting, “Politics is rampant all around the census.”
The selection of Curtis brought criticism from the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters, which said the shop was inexperienced and complained to Federal Communications Chairman William Kennard last week.
