NEW YORK WPP Group's Young & Rubicam has landed global creative duties on Bacardi rums, the client has confirmed. Y&R was selected after a review involving three other agencies, sources said. Estimated billings are $160 million.
The other finalists, all incumbents, were Interpublic Group's McCann Erickson in London and New York; Publicis Groupe's Fallon in London and Minneapolis; and davidandgoliath, a Los Angeles independent that handles Bacardi business in the U.S., sources said. (McCann and Fallon also handle other non-rum brands in the Bacardi & Co. portfolio.)
The award to Y&R represents a consolidation of global business handled by several shops in different markets.
Y&R pitched the business out of its London and New York offices, and its team included New York chief creative officer Gary Goldsmith and Adrian Holmes, executive creative director for the Europe, Africa and the Middle East regions, sources said. The agency declined comment.
Final presentations took place this week in London, according to sources. New York consultancy AAR Partners managed the review.
The client issued a brief statement confirming Y&R's selection but disclosed no other details.
