Doug Sweeny is packing up his jeans and reentering the agency fold.
A former managing director at the San Francisco office of TBWA\Chiat\Day who assumed a lead marketing role at Levi Strauss & Co. four years ago, Sweeny is joining Young & Rubicam as president of its West Coast operations. He’ll be based in San Francisco and report to North American president Tom Sebok, who described Sweeny as "proven change agent."
Sweeny’s hire fills a vacancy left by the March exit of John Berg. In his new role, Sweeny, 42, will partner West Coast chief creative officer Joe Kayser—a former colleague at TBWA\C\D. The duo’s main charge is to grow a region that has been beset by client erosion in recent years. At Levi's, Sweeny was vp of global brand marketing. Earlier in his career, he worked at agencies such AKQA and Hal Riney & Partners.
About 75 staffers work at Y&R’s West Coast offices in San Francisco and Irvine, Calif. Key accounts include Chevron, Mattel, Jenny Craig, Citrix, Roundtable Pizza and the NCAA.
