Yahoo Inc. said its head of marketing is resigning, continuing the exodus of old-guard executives who have been with the Internet company since its inception.

Karen Edwards, vice president of world-wide marketing, said she will leave in early October for personal reasons and plans to spend more time with her son. Ms. Edwards, 38 years old, is credited with building Yahoo’s brand, which remains one of the most recognized on the Internet, particularly its catchy, whimsical slogan “Do you Yahoo?”

“The company’s changing,” she said, declining to be more specific.
