Wunderman Cato Johnson will sever its decade-long relationship with Apple Computer due to conflicts with new client Sony Electronics, possibly opening the door to a review, sources said.
WCJ landed the $10-15 million direct marketing task this month when Sony consolidated its PC account at sister agency Young & Rubicam here.
"Sony will allow us to showcase our creative focus and integrate it with the advertising [from Y&R]," said Julio Deulofeu, WCJ president.
Under interim CEO Steve Jobs, Apple has slashed its direct budget to less than $2 million and boosted brand ads. But as rivals Dell, Sony and Compaq expand direct sales, Apple is likely to follow suit. Client officials were not available for comment. Apple also works with CKS Partners here. --Joan Voight
