WPP's m/SIX Enters the U.S. Market

Stopforth leads the charge in N.Y.

David Stopforth, m/Six new managing director for New York

U.K. media agency m/Six, a joint venture of WPP's GroupM and creative shop CHI & Partners, which WPP owns 49 percent of, has entered the U.S. market.

David Stopforth, a former group strategy director at Publicis Groupe's Zenith Media, is leading a new m/Six operation in New York as managing director. He reports to global CEO Jess Burley.

The agency's only other office, in London, has about 70 staffers. For now, Stopforth is an "Army of one" in New York, operating out of CHI's office on Spring Street.

CHI, headquartered in London, launched its New York outpost in 2007. The office now has about 40 staffers and accounts such as PBS, the Food Bank for New York City and Direct Energy. M/Six plans and buys U.S. media for those clients, as well as Campari and British beverage company Britvic.

CHI employs about 250 staffers in London where its clients include The Carphone Warehouse, Lexus, and Samsung.

At Zenith, Stopforth handled media planning for the likes of JPMorgan Chase, H&M and Puma. Before Zenith, he was head of global media, strategy and operations at Reebok.

Correction: An earlier version of this article inaccurately named Campari among CHI London's clients. M/Six works with Campari in the U.S. CHI does not. The article has also been updated to include Lexus and Samsung among clients of CHI London.
