Surveys consistently find many women are unhappy with their weight — a fact marketers exploit with varying degrees of tact and success. But does this make women unhappy with their appearance in general? An Associated Press/iVillage survey of women, fielded last month, suggests that it often does not.

The polling finds positive feelings about one’s weight to be more the exception than the rule among women. Fourteen percent described their feelings about their weight as “strongly positive” and 22 percent as “somewhat positive.”
