The familiar concept of moving to a different home for one’s retirement years hasn’t aged well. A survey by the MetLife Mature Market Institute and the National Association of Home Builders finds 63 percent of the 55-and-older respondents planning (or hoping) to stay in their current home. Twelve percent plan to buy a new home, and the rest are unsure what they’ll do.

The report (based on polling fielded in February) finds little support for the notion that empty-nest older folks are yearning for a taste of big-city living.
