NEW YORK Wieden + Kennedy has successfully defended ESPN’s $45 million media account after a review, according to sources.

Separately, ESPN is considering a shortlist of undisclosed shops to create ads for its new wireless sports service, sources said [Adweek Online, March 3]. That business is worth about $30 million, according to sources.

The New York office of independent, Portland, Ore.-based W+K has handled ESPN media since 1998. In the review, it overcame Havas’ Media Planning Group, Omnicom Group’s OMD, Publicis Groupe’s Starcom and MDC Partners’ The Media Kitchen, sources said.
